Arthur L. "Cappy" Johnson Jr.

Arthur (Cappy) Lloyd Johnson Jr. passed away peacefully on January 13 at Tripoint Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.

Art was born May 30, 1967, to Arthur Sr. and Judith (Fern) Johnson.

Art graduated from Chardon High School in 1985, and Ohio State ATI in 1987. He spent one year in Scotland on a Scottish Heritage USA Scholarship at Threve School of Gardening. He enlisted in the United States Navy in March 1991, and in 1994 he was honorably and medically discharged.

Survivors include his loyal and beloved canine companion Sarge, siblings, Kathryn Cowling, Laura (Mark) Manley, David (Beverly) Johnson, nieces and nephews, Anna Manley, Sarah Anderson, Elijah (Sharon) Manley, Jessica (Brent) Huffman, Kyle Johnson, and Ian Cowling. Survivors also include many stepchildren, step-nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Aunts, Barbara (Ron) Rodgers, and Jean Gilliam, Uncle, Phil (Norma) Johnson and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents Arthur Sr. and Judith (Fern) Johnson, his brother-in-law, Howard Cowling, his late loyal canine companion, Maxine, and our beloved Paul Manley (Papa).

Art was a member of Leroy Thompson VFW post 7939, and American Legion Post 336 in Painesville, and the local BSS.

Art enjoyed spending quality time with his family and friends - “giving everyone suggestions”, babysitting his great nieces and nephews, bowling at the Leroy V, watching the annual Army/Navy football games, watching John Wayne movies and NCIS, gardening, and making sure his pellet stove was always on high.  Art treated everyone he met like they were his family.

Calling hours will be held at Spear Mulqueeny Funeral Home in Painesville on Friday, January 31st from 4-6 PM.  Funeral Service to follow.  Friends and family are welcome to celebrate him after, at the Leroy Thompson VFW post 7939.
