Assunta (Sue) Zappitelli, Age 86 passed away on August 27, 2021, at Hospice House of the Western Reserve. She was born March 1,1935 in Santa Marie Del Molise, Italy to Giovanni Bertone and Addolerata Giancola. Assunta came to the United States with her siblings as a teenager and made a home in Painesville for her family after marrying Nicola in 1957. They were married for 63 years.
Assunta helped lay the foundation for Zappitelli’s Pizzeria. She quit her full- time job to work with her son Anthony in the restaurant business for over twenty-five years. She is known for her homemade meatballs, lasagna, and especially her famous pasta sauce which became a Zappitelli’s legacy. Assunta’s two loves were her family and her devotion to God. Assunta’s selfless nature put her family's needs before hers. She enjoyed watching Catholic masses on TV, as well as watching the stock market ticker, and “The Big Dog“ on WWE. She loved being around friends and family drinking coffee and sharing stories and especially gossip.
Assunta is survived by her children, Mary (Wayne) Worrell and Anthony (Kristie) Zappitelli, her grandchildren Rylee, Nicky, and Nathan Zappitelli, along with many loving nieces and nephews. Assunta is preceded in death by her husband Nicola, son Donald Zappitelli, brother Angelo Bertone (Dominica); sisters, Antonietta (Alfred) Zappitelli, and Michelina (Silvio) Stanziale.
