Carole H. (Jones) Smole

Carole H. Smole, age 87, of Painesville Township, passed away October 4, 2023, at Legacy of Mentor in Mentor, Ohio.  She was born February 7, 1936, in Cleveland to Lawrence E. and Bernice (Wichert) Jones.  Carole was affectionately known as Moon to family and friends.

Carole was a 1955 Harvey High School graduate.  She was fondly called “Smiley” in high school.   She worked for Lake County National Bank for many years.   Carole was also a dog breeder.  She bred and raised German Shepherds.  She had a passion for animals, wild or domestic.  She took care of any “critter” that needed help, from hawks to bunnies.  She would nurse them back to health and then release them back to nature.  She spent her retired years with her beloved shih tzu-yorkie, Pumpkin.  

Carole had 14 major surgeries but always had a positive attitude. 

Carole is survived by her husband, Joseph G. Smole; son, Chris (Donna) Smole; daughter, Heather (Randy) Dolan; grandchildren, Josh and Paige Dolan; brother, Richard (Jan) Jones and brother in law, Heikki Kallio.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Dorothy Kallio.

Friends will be received 4:00-6:00 PM, Sunday, October 15, 2023, at Spear Mulqueeny Funeral Home, 667 Mentor Avenue, Painesville, Ohio.  Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM, Monday, October 16th, at the funeral home.  Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
