Chong Malkamaki, 81, of Painesville Township, passed away peacefully at her home on February 20, 2026. Born in South Korea to Yong Kun Chu and Kwang Soon Park, she brought a spirit of resilience to all who knew her.
Chong dedicated decades of her career as a product inspector at Avery Dennison in Painesville, where she was renowned for her unwavering work ethic. Above all, she cherished her role as a devoted family matriarch, always prioritizing the well-being of her loved ones.
A passionate cook, Chong delighted in preparing meals for every occasion, ensuring no one left her table hungry. Her legendary K-bbq ribs and fried rice were family favorites, often shared with friends and neighbors alike. In her leisure time, she found joy in gardening and astutely investing in the stock market.
Chong is survived by her devoted partner of 26 years, Don Powers; her daughter, Christine Gallowan (Brian Campbell); her granddaughter, Francesca Gallowan; her sister, Youra Youd; her brother, Yong Chul Joo (Annette); her nieces, Kristy Lok (Nesan) and Angel Radin (Sean); her great-nephews, Andrew Lok and Max Radin; and her great-nieces, Isabelle Lok, Tiffany Lok (Hardin), and Mia Radin.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Suzy Lee.
Friends and family are invited to gather from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at Spear Mulqueeny Funeral Home, 667 Mentor Avenue, Painesville, Ohio 44077. Funeral services will follow immediately at 2:00 p.m.
