Constance Coffman Obituary

Constance Coffman (Carrigan) peacefully joined her late husband, Bobby, aided by the light of the beautiful moon on December 4th, 2025.

Born April 14th, 1938 in Utica, New York. She grew up in Painesville, Ohio. Graduating from Harvey High School and Lake Erie College.

She began her teaching career at St. Mary’s Painesville, and then eventually retired from Huntington School in Painesville in where she taught first grade for many years. She kept in touch with many of her students (She was a fan of Facebook). Many have also noted the impact she had on their lives. She was a life-long resident of Fairport Harbor and was active in the Fairport Harbor Council (once running against her brother-in-law for mayor), Fairport Senior Center, Academic Boosters, Hidden Harbor Condo Association, and St. Anthony of Padua Church. She was a strong supporter of Fairport businesses, sometimes offering unsolicited advice. Her goal was to always make things better.

Connie fought to get FEMA funds and insurance for the flood of 2006. After the flood she had the Coast Guard on speed dial, not hesitating to call them when she felt the river was getting too high and threatening the safety of the residents of Hidden Harbor Condominiums. As her daughters, we can acknowledge that she could be persistent, demanding, and opinionated. If anyone in town needed something done, they knew to call her and she would get it done.

Connie is survived by her two daughters, Debbie Rasmussen (Lyndhurst) and Darlene Coffman Bates and son in law, Robert Bates (Medina). Grandchildren, Justin (Jessica) Rasmussen and Maren Rasmussen. Sister, Barbara Roush and her husband, Roger; brother-in-law, Thomas (Linda) Coffman, along with many nieces and nephews; close friend, Denny Reho. The family would like to thank Valerie O’Brien, who visited Connie and understood her personality. She treated her like her own mother. Another special thanks to St. Anthony’s Church for their cards and prayers that she received regularly. I would like to thank my sister Darlene, and her husband Bob for their herculean efforts to help my mom find her zest for life that seemed to have left her when our dad died.

Since our mother liked to be the center of attention, she is willing to wait until after the holidays for her final farewell. What better way to spend a cold Saturday in January than joining the family at Spear Mulqueeny in Fairport Harbor on January 3rd, 2026, to share your stories about our mother as well as her late husband, our dad Bob. They were a couple in the true sense of the word.

Her late husband Bob was a great tipper. Connie was proficient in check writing; there wasn’t a charity or a person in need she didn’t support. If you would like, write a check (we know people don’t use checks too much anymore) or whichever way works best for you, to your favorite cause, St. Anthony’s Church, or the Fairport Police and Fire Department. If money is tight, put on a little extra eye shadow (preferably blue) and spray a little extra hair spray on your hair, she would love it.
