Cosimo Tomba, age 98, passed away March 30, 2022 at his home surrounded by his children. He was born February 28, 1924, in San Pietro in Valle, Italy to Joseph and Filomena (Colocielo) Tomba. Cosimo emigrated to the United States at age 6, settling in Morgantown, WV and Painesville, OH.
As a boy, Cosimo spent several influential years living on his Uncle Cristi’s 150 acre farm, taking care of 50 head of cattle. It was during this time that Cosimo gained his unmatched work ethic.
He worked as a crane operator for the Diamond Shamrock for nearly 40 years, serving as a union steward for 13 years. He frequently recalled never having a bad day at work.
Cosimo enjoyed construction and was a talented builder. He built two of his family’s homes. He was an avid gardener.
He was a humble, principled man who was happiest in the company of his wife Nicolina. Together they raised three children, Joseph (Maria) Tomba of Painesville, Filomena Tomba of Cuyahoga Falls, and Lina (Bernard) Kosloski of Chardon.
Cosimo was a member of St Mary’s church in Painesville and served as the treasurer of the Pompeii Society for many years.
He was a loving and kind grandfather to Nicole Stanziale (Sunil Pahwa), Christina Tomba, and John Kosloski. He was blessed with two great grandsons Sean and Henrik Pahwa. He is survived by his siblings Nick Tomba and Laura (Philip) Padula.
Cosimo was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 53 years, Nicolina (Terriaca)Tomba. He was also preceded in death by his sister Assunta Marco.
Friends and family may call 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM Monday, April 4, 2022 at Spear Mulqueeny Funeral Home, 667 Mentor Avenue, Painesville. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 AM Tuesday April 5, 2022 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 242 North State Street, Painesville. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
