Dale Flood Obituary

Dale S. Flood, age 82, passed away with his wife by his side December 12, 2025, at Ahuja Medical Center in Beachwood.  He was born, June 17, 1943, in Cleveland to Sherrill M. Flood and Gertrude (Pufholz) Flood.

Dale served in the United States Marines 1961 – 1966.  He started his career at the Sheriff’s Office in 1966 when he was hired by then Sheriff Edwin Cunningham. He would later be sworn in to the rank of Deputy Sergeant and serve as a shift supervisor, as well as one of the 1st members of the newly formed Lake County Sheriff’s Office “Star” team, the first SWAT team formed in the State of Ohio. The Lake County Blue Coats awarded Dale the Lake County Blue Coats Jorge Medina award in 1983 for distinguished service. In January 1993 Dale was promoted to Deputy Lieutenant under Sheriff Daniel Dunlap and would soon be placed as the supervisor in charge of the Civil Division. His supervision responsibilities included accounting, civil process, jail records, public records, personnel/payroll, Sheriff’s sales and more.

Lt. Flood retired from service in July of 1998. However, he remained a Special Deputy serving with our Office to work as Bailiff in the Lake County Court of Common Pleas Probate until he retired from public service in December of 2016.

He was a member of the Marine Corps League, Eagles Lodge, Elks Lodge, American Legion, the VFW, and the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP).  He enjoyed bowling and boating and was also a member of the Chagrin Lagoons Yacht Club.   Most of all Dale loved spending time with his family.

Dale is survived by his wife, Christine (Miller) Flood; son, Dale R. (Jennifer) Flood; daughter, Nancy  ( Michael) Gladding;  sisters, Yvonne Andrews and Cindy  (John) Staub; seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Susan (Coode) Flood; his sister, Karen Wolf, Brother Wayne Flood, brother in law Butch and his parents. And his beloved dog Toby.

Family and friends will be received 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM, Thursday, December 18, 2025, at Spear Mulqueeny Funeral Home, 667 Mentor Avenue, Painesville, Ohio.  Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM, Friday, December 19th at the funeral home.  Burial will be at Concord Cemetery.
