David Charles Hildebrecht

David Charles Hildebrecht, age 74, passed away January 22, 2025, in Rockledge, Florida.  He was born November 29, 1950, in Painesville, Ohio to Charles Hildebrecht and Gertrude (Pontinen) Hildebrecht.

David graduated from Riverside High School and went on to serve in the United States Coast Guard. He took great pride in the time he spent serving onboard the Eagle, a USCG sailing ship. After his military service, David successfully completed deep sea diver training at the Coastal School of Deep Sea Diving in Oakland, California. He later graduated from the University of Akron and enjoyed managing a family-owned environmental laboratory business in northeast Ohio.

David was an avid scuba diver and motorcycle rider, and he enjoyed taking fishing trips to Canada with his father and other relatives. He married his wife Kathryn in 1974, and together they raised four children and many pets in their family home in Newbury, Ohio. He was also a founding and long-time member of Grace Evangelical Bible Church in Newbury.

David spent decades teaching his children a love for camping and the great outdoors. He was a beloved Poopah to seven grandchildren and spent his most recent years “snow birding” between Ohio and Florida to enjoy time with all of them.  

David was known for his friendly nature and gentle spirit, his mischievous sense of humor, his deep love for his family, and his steadfast faith in Jesus Christ.

David is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Kathryn (Lilley) Hildebrecht; sons Christopher (Carrie) Hildebrecht, Timothy Hildebrecht, and Benjamin (Emma) Hildebrecht; daughter Alyssa (Thomas) Baker; grandchildren Korie, Connor, Cody, Colton, Abigail, Michaela, and Jacob.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Diane Hildebrecht and daughter Heidi Hildebrecht.

Friends will be received Thursday, January 30, 2025 from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM at Spear Mulqueeny Funeral Home, 667 Mentor Avenue, Painesville, Ohio.  Funeral Services will be Friday, January 31, 2025 at 11:00 AM, also at the funeral home.  Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery.
