David W Goodban, 80, of Concord Twp, Ohio, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2025. He was surrounded by family at Ohman Family Living at Holly in Newbury, Ohio.
Born in Erie, Pennsylvania, David later made his home in several Ohio communities, including Conneaut, Ashtabula, Columbus, and Concord Twp. He worked four of his high school summers at his uncle's dairy farm before graduating from Ashtabula High School, class of 1965. He proudly served four years in the US Navy, mostly stationed in Rota, Spain.
David was a devoted husband, loving father, and loyal friend. He was known for his unforgettable smile and kind spirit, always greeting others with warmth and good humor.
Deeply committed to serving his community, David spent 20 years as a volunteer firefighter and certified EMT/Paramedic at Station 4 in Conneaut, Ohio. He worked as a production worker, and later as a head custodian in a middle school. After retirement, he continued giving back as a volunteer in the Emergency Room at Lake Health TriPoint Medical Center.
An avid and passionate runner, David completed 13 marathons—including the Boston Marathon twice—as well as numerous 5K, 10K, and 30K races. He was proud of his many age-group wins and cherished the friendships and health, the sport brought to his life.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur and Marian (Himrod) Goodban; his brother, Bruce Goodban; and his sister, Ellen Goodban.
He is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Laura (Phelps) Goodban; daughters Tracey Woodworth (Jodi), Tiffany Goodban, and Kelly Pudder; stepchildren Michael Goodban (Becky) and Amanda Goodban (Brian); and the mother of his children, Judy (Butte) Fronk. He was a proud grandfather to Kimberly Goodman (Justin), Jodi Woodworth Jr. (Jackie), Brett Woodworth (Madison), Mack Woodworth, Brady Beckwith, Karly Beckwith, Miranda Farmer, Sophia Pudder, and James Farmer Jr., as well as many great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. Sister Shirley Goodban, sister-in-law Carol Goodban.
A Celebration of Life for family and friends will be held on Saturday, August 9, with visiting from 2:00-4:00pm and a service at 4:00pm at Spear-Mulqueeny Funeral Home, 667 Mentor Ave., Painesville, Ohio.
