Gertrude Rorabaugh Obituary

Gertrude Genevieve (Hughes) Rorabaugh, 87, passed away May 16, 2021 at Tripoint Medical Center in Concord Township. She was born September 8, 1933 in Galena, Ohio to Rev. Hugh Carl and Effie Jane (Drake) Hughes.

Gertie lived in Delaware, Ohio before moving to the Lake County area. She worked at Namco, Kmart, and Carlisle Allen in the Candy and stationery Department. She volunteered with Cub Scouts as a Den Coach Leader, RedCross at the blood drives, and the USO making and sending Care packages to our military serving overseas. She was a founding member of Department of Ohio Amvets Perry Post 1971 Ladies Auxiliary where she was a lifetime member. She initiated the Rock a Thon which was a fund raiser for the Hospice Peaceful and Proud Program which honored veterans in their care. With the help of local veterans they arranged for the veteran to receive all the awards they earned during their time of service and presented them to them in a special ceremony.

She enjoyed watching the Browns and Indians play ball and was an “armchair referee.” She loved playing Pinochle, Euchre, and SkipBo, especially with her brothers and sisters. She loved family times with her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She loved her friends and pastors at Perry United Methodist Church and the Wednesday Dinners.

Gertie is survived by her husband, Alfred Rorabaugh; daughters, Ethyl Jane (Covrett) Chatfield, Darlena Denise (Moss) Webb, Shari Vickroy, Leanne (Nancy) Murry: son,  Allen (Marsha) Aldrich; sisters, Elsie Stuewe, and Elizabeth (Doyle) Whited; brothers, Jesse (Erika) Hughes, and Larry Hughes; grandchildren, Tracy (Thaddeus) Zmorowski, Tony (Jacki) Demchak, David (Samantha) Metlicka, Gary (Leyanne) Metlicka, Gilbert (Jonathon) Metlicka, Jeremy (Mary Butcher) Clevenger, Lucy (Joe) Hepstall, Richard (Kristal Thurman) Chatfield, Genny Moss, Juanita Webb, Danielle (Charlie Schweitzer) Webb, Jada Webb, Tracy (Eulis Campbell) Webb, Geneva Renee Webb, Danny (Jessica) Webb, Matthew Aldrich, Nathan Aldrich, Lailee Aldrich, Jacob Aldrich, Lisette Aldrich; great grandchildren, Leah M. Gertie was preceded in death by her parents, former husband, Forrest Gilbert “Woody” Moss in 1994; children, Marilyn Sue (Covrett) Demchak, Forrest Randall Moss; sons in law, Anthony Terrence Demchak and Danny Ray Webb; granddaughter, Jamie (Clevenger) Yaeger; grandson, Dallas Webb; sister, Lucretia “Lou” (Hughes) Rice; brothers, Carl Hughes, Emery “Zeke” Hughes, Harry Hughes, and Herbert “Dave” Hughes.

There will be a Memorial on Sunday, May 30, 2021 at noon at the Perry United Methodist Church, 3875 Main St., Perry, OH 44081.  All are welcome. It will also be livestreamed on www.Facebook.com/Perry-United-Methodist-Church-Ohio.
