James Coe Metz, age 73, of Painesville, passed away at his residence Friday, May 21, 2021, surrounded by his family. He was born February 28, 1948 in Cleveland, Ohio to Chester and Irene (Gemerchak) Metz.
He grew up in Chardon and was a member of Chardon High School Class of 1967. James attended Kent State University receiving his Bachelor’s degree in 1974. He served as Mentor Schools Financial officer, was on the Painesville City Credit Union Board as well as the Cardinal Community Credit Union Board. Jim was a member of Northeast Ohio School Business Officials as well as Leadership Lake County and The Painesville Elks Club. In retirement he enjoyed working as a bartender at The Country Club in Pepper Pike, and especially enjoyed his membership at Cypress Woods Golf and Country Club in Naples Florida. His hobbies were playing and watching golf, and raising Alpacas, but his passion was spending time with his family, especially attending the sporting events of his children and grandchildren.
James is survived by his wife, Karen (Cannon) Metz; children, Michael (Paula) Metz of Highland Heights, OH., Phillip (Phillip Hoffland) Metz of Naples, Fla., Julie (Jeffrey Hossler) Metz of Naples Fla. and Jennifer (Rich Smith) Metz of Alpharetta, GA.; grandchildren, Andrew, Alex, Lilly, and Bradley; brother, George (Barbara) Metz of Newbury, OH; sister, Irene (Charles) Twining of Glen Arm, Maryland.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 9:30 AM Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at St. Gabriel Church 9925 Johnnycake Ridge Rd, Mentor, OH 44060
Family and friends will be received 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM, Monday, May 24, 2021 at Spear-Mulqueeny Funeral Home 667 Mentor Avenue, Painesville.
