James Alexander Orvis, age 87, passed away peacefully September 1st, 2025, at Cardinal Woods of Mentor. He was born, December 25th, 1937, in Painesville, OH, to Alexander and Wilma (Horn) Bennett.
James was a machinist for many years for the Caterpillar Company. He was a die-hard Browns, and Buckeyes fan, and was a part of the 1956 undefeated Mentor High School football team. He also enjoyed playing his violin, ukelele, and keyboard.
He is survived by his loving wife Erica (Wening) Orvis; daughter, Becky Ferron; son, Michael (Denise) Orvis; stepsons; Mitchell (Suzy) Perkins, and Paul Matthew Perkins; brother, George Joseph Orvis; sister, Liz (Gary) Lambert; grandchildren, Anastasia (Hayden) Louise Ferron, Gabrielle (Kyle) Lynn Kuhlma, Jacob Phelan; step grandchild, Christopher Perkins; great-grandchildren; Gemma and Rowan Schultz.
James was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Michelle Lynn Orvis; son-in-law, Price Ferron; sisters, Sandy Nagy, and Margarette Craft.
A graveside service will be held at a later date at Perry Cemetery.
