James "Jim" Nicholas Popely

February 23, 1945 - October 17, 2025 (age 80)

Jim Popely, age 80, was born on February 23, 1945, in Painesville, Ohio, James graduated from Fairport Harding High School in 1963.  He married Marjorie Ann Popely in 1966.  He moved to Willowick where they raised their family, before building their forever home and moving to Eastlake in 1989. 

Jim served in the U. S. Army.  He worked at Bailey Controls in Wickliffe, Ohio and then Hubble Industries.  He was very involved with sports, coaching both boys and girls leagues as well as playing softball and basketball. Jim also ran both the Willowick boy's and men's softball leagues and he enjoyed umpiring girl's and men's softball.  

Jim is survived by his three children, Christopher Popely; Jennifer Popely and Joyce Popely.  He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 32 years, Marjorie Ann Popely; parents, John George Popely and Anna (Molnar) Popely; sister, Anna Marie Popely; brother, John Popely; sister-in-law, Doris (Baroni) Popely; and brother, Gerald Popely.   He has 5 grandchildren, Patrick, Matthew, Nicole, Nathaniel, and Luke. 

Friends and family will be received 4 PM to 7 PM, Tuesday October 21, 2025, at Spear-Mulqueeny Funeral Home, 667 Mentor Avenue, Painesville, Ohio.  Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM, Wednesday, October 22nd, at the funeral home.

Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery.  

We were blessed with a wonderful father, grandpa and friend.  He is now reunited with the love of his life, Marjorie.  He will forever be our Angel until we are all reunited one day.
