It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of James W. Filby. “Jim”, age 88, passed away December 18, 2023. He was born August 22, 1935, in Jefferson, Pennsylvania to John and Inez (McMannes) Filby.
Jim resided in Willowick for many years, then moved to Mentor 2 years ago. Jim served in the United States Army. He was a machinist and worked for Cleveland Twist Drill for over 42 years. He was a member of the Chagrin River Salmon Association and was an avid HAM radio operator with the call sign WB8DXC. He really enjoyed fishing, hunting, and woodworking as hobbies.
James is survived by his daughter, Marlene (Glenn) Debeljak; son, James (Ana) Filby; brothers, Don Filby and Ernie (Charlotte) Filby; sisters, Audrey Duke and Eva Mae Shoenberger; grandchildren, Leah (Mark) Raico, Lauren (Craig) Wardwell, Austin Debeljak; great grandchildren, Laila Raico, Parker Wardwel, and Benjamin Wardwell.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Loretta Lee (Nyswaner) Filby in 2019; his parents; brothers, Eddie Filby and Louis Filby; and his sister, Lillie Ewart.
Funeral Services will be held at a later date.
Jim was a man of few words, so in his memory, take a moment of silence……
