John Owens Obituary

John Raymond Owens, age 76, passed away November 27, 2025, at Tri-Point Medical Center in Concord Township.  He was born, December 14, 1948, in Davenport, Iowa to John Owens and Mabelle (Engel) Owens.

He worked for Horsburg & Scott Company for over 30 years as a gear cutter.

John enjoyed people, his family, loved his sisters and all their kids…Uncle Johnny was the fun Uncle. John was an avid fisherman and had so much fishing equipment including a boat. He loved birds and would want to teach you about them even if you didn’t want to learn. John had a huge music collection including country, blue grass, Irish and more. He enjoyed  camping his whole life. For almost 20 years, he and Barb traveled in an RV that required a lot of maintenance…and he happily did whatever needed to be done. John enjoyed keeping up with technology so much so he bought new iPhone and iPad the day before his hospital admittance.

John is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara (Veasey) Owens; devoted stepson, Daniel Veasey; treasured grandson, Porter Selfe-Veasey; and loving sister, Ruth (Leo) Deutsch; many nieces and nephews (Barb ‘s last count was over 100 and that count was done years ago). He was preceded in death by his sister, Wanda (Gabe) Garnica and his parents.

Family and friends will be received 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM, Thursday, December 4, 2025, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 242 North State Street in Painesville.  Funeral Mass will immediately follow at 11:00 AM.
