John F. Ryan Jr.

John F. Ryan Jr., age 73, passed away, September 14, 2025, at David Simpson Hospice House in Cleveland.  He was born August 17, 1952, in East Cleveland to John F. Ryan Sr. and Alice P. (Haggerty) Ryan.

Johnny wore many hats…he was a butcher/meat cutter, cook, and a nurse, to name a few.  He was a “Friend of Bill W.” and a long-time member of AA.  He graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1970, attended Ohio University, Gannon University and Lake Erie College.  He received a degree from the Willoughby-Eastlake School of Practical Nursing.  In his later years John discovered he liked to sing and dance and was a member of Lake MetroParks Show Biz Kidz.

John really enjoyed family time.  He loved and adored all his nieces and nephews.  They made him laugh and smile.  He especially loved spending time with his dearest friend, Karen, who took such wonderful care of him during his illness.

John is survived by his sisters, Therese M. Ryan of Eastlake, Margaret A. “Margy” Ryan of Painesville and Mary Pat Keyes of Concord Township; Aunt and Godmother, Judy Ryan Lustik; dear friend and companion, Karen Kinter; nieces, Molly A. (Steve) Fusaro and Kerry A. (Jason) Jonke; nephew, Bart Ryan (Katie) Keyes; great nephews, Ben and Sam Keyes; great nieces, Eliza Keyes, Annabella Fusaro, Lilly Fusaro, Charlotte Jonke, and twins, Rory and Cora Jonke; cousins, Sandee (Gene) Collins, Stephanie Ann Lustik, Patrick Kristo, Morgan Kristo and Bridget Kristo; plus many more cousins from the Murphy, Morgan, Ryan, Sexton, Duda, Pylick, Nash, Best and Haggerty clans.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Alice Ryan; brother-in-law, Barton N. Keyes; uncles, John “Jack” Haggerty and Rudy Lustik; aunts, Marie Haggerty (Don) Graf and Mary Lou Ryan.

Friends will be received 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM, Sunday, September 21, 2025 at Spear Mulqueeny Funeral Home, 667 Mentor Avenue, Painesville, Ohio.  A Mass of Christian Burial for John, will be 10:00 AM, Monday, September 22nd at St. Mary Catholic Church, 242 North State Street, Painesville.  Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery.  (The funeral mass will be live-streamed.  Go to stmarypvl.org and click on the Facebook link.)
