Kevin F. McManus, age 75, passed away October 29, 2025, at UH Seidman Cancer Center in Cleveland after a very brief illness. He was born August 6, 1950, in Painesville to William F. McManus and Mary Margaret (Denning) McManus.
He led a full and wonderful life since his parents believed that, despite his limitations, he could learn and be able to do anything he wanted. Like any child, he was allowed to try different activities and adventures which he enjoyed and quite often excelled in. As a youth, Kevin was active in Scouting achieving Star rank, Troop 64 Scout of the Year and the Catholic Scouting Ad Altare Dei emblem. He was a master of leatherwork, quickly putting together moccasin kits sold at the Camp Stigwandish Trading Post for anyone who wanted them.
His fascination with shoes gave him the opportunity to learn the shoe repair trade through a Goodwill Industries training program. As a young adult, he worked at three shoe repair shops in Lake County for over ten years. He worked in the sheltered industries in Lake County for over twenty years with many different products they assembled. In the assembly line, he was the final station responsible for ensuring the required quality standards were met. He had a marvelous work ethic and a was always proud of a job well done.
Family was always important, and he was particularly close to his older brother Bill and sister Maureen. When baby “bother” Terry came along, he became a true big brother to him. Once Bill got his driver’s license, he took Kevin everywhere and even taught him to drive a car and taught him bowling, both which he became quite good at. Kevin especially enjoyed spending Sunday afternoons with his family and his St. Mary friends after attending Mass, especially when food was involved.
For over thirty years, Kevin was blessed to have support from agencies that provide food, housing, transportation, staff assistance and daily activities. He enjoyed seasonal parties, dances, bowling and swimming where he participated in numerous Special Olympics events, winning many medals. He thrived during the last four years working with the dedicated people at Brittany Residential Services and the Brite Day Community Center Day Program. The family is grateful for these devoted and caring professionals who provide daily quality care for individuals with disabilities.
Kevin is survived by his brother, Terry (Sue) McManus of Painesville Township; nephews, Brian McManus, Sean (Dawn) McManus and Matthew McManus; nieces, Jennifer (Rich) Berry and Erin (Michael) Baznik; great nieces, Emma Rose Berry, Trixie Berry, Aviana Baznik and Taylor McManus; great nephews, Arturo Baznik, Carmelo Baznik and Colton McManus.
