Lois H. Larsen, age 80, passed away November 25, 2024, at University Hospital in Cleveland after a short illness. Lois was born March 7, 1944, in Oklahoma City, OK to Phillip and Imogene (Brothers) Collins. It was there that she met and married the love of her life Jerry, whom she was married to for 66 years.
Lois was many things to many people. First and foremost, she was a wife to Jerry and mother to Scott and David and their wives, Diane and Sherry. There was never a family dinner or holiday celebration that was not filled with her wisdom, laughter, and stories of her life. She was a grandmother to Morgan, Andrew, Madison, Curtis, Michael and Eric and a great grandmother to Hunter and Ivy Larsen. At the end of every visit, she was known to open her pantry door as the grandkids lined up with bags that she filled with all the treats and candy she knew they did not get to have at home, ignoring protests from their parents.
Lois was also a business owner with Jerry. Together they owned and operated Hemphill Travel in Painesville, OH for 16 Years. She was well known in the community for her infectious laugh and her gift of gab as she worked to make memorable travel experiences for their many clients NE Ohio. Once she retired, Lois enjoyed traveling with Jerry, cooking for family, sewing and quilting. She was an avid computer gamer spending many nights online as ‘Loopy Loo” with her grandkids looking for hidden treasures and and conquering new lands. It was not unusual for her to stay up playing most of the night and napping so she could be ready for the following night’s online adventures.
Lois will be desperately missed by her husband, Jerry; sons Jerry Scott (Diane) and David (Sherry) Larsen; grandchildren and great grandchildren; brothers, Michael Collins and Pat Collins. She was welcomed to heaven by her Grandmother Helen Brothers, parents Phillip and Imogene Collins and her sisters, Phyllis Runions and Pam Daron.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 6th at 3:30pm, at Mentor United Methodist Church, 8600 Mentor Avenue, Mentor Ohio.
