Louis Edward “Lou” Reho Sr.
Heaven gained a very special angel. Our dad left us so suddenly, and it still doesn’t feel real. If you knew him, you know he always was joking and could make people laugh in any room. We imagine he is already dancing to his favorite polka songs in Heaven and enjoying a donut or slice of pie. Born September 20, 1935, just a month shy of his 90th birthday, Dad passed away unexpectedly at home on August 19, 2025.
He was proud of his Hungarian heritage in Fairport Harbor, Ohio and carried a lifelong love of polka music and dancing. He enjoyed playing the accordion, bowling, playing balina, shoveling snow, and cheering on and yelling at the TV while watching his favorite teams - the Cleveland Browns, Indians, Cavs, and Ohio State Buckeyes. Dad loved simple joys: car rides, trips for ice cream and donuts, and walking at parks. He faithfully exercised at the Fairport Senior Center four times a week and enjoyed volunteering at the Salvation Army in Painesville. He also enjoyed volunteering at the Fish Frys during Lent at the VFW.
A graduate of Fairport Harding High School, he proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict as a mechanic working on B-52 bombers in Washington State. He went on to work for 36 years at Fasson (now Avery Dennison) in Painesville, Ohio.
Throughout his life, he was an active member of the Hungarian Culture Club, the Slovenian Club, VFW Post 7754 in Fairport, and Knights of Columbus Council 947 in Painesville. A man of strong faith, he was a longtime member of St. Mary Church in Painesville, where he served as an usher for many years, and also attended St. Anthony Church in Fairport.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Nancy (Morgan) Reho, whom he loved dearly. They married on June 10, 1972. He is also survived by his son Lou Jr. Reho, his daughter Linda Reho, and the family cat Buddy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elizabeth (Wayner) and Mike Reho.
The youngest of eight children, he is survived by his brother James, and preceded in death by his siblings Betty, Mike, John, Steve, Joseph, and Mary. He is also survived by many cherished nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to all the wonderful caregivers who have helped our family over the years.
Above all, Dad will be remembered for his humor, his warm smile, his kindness, and the joy he brought to so many.
Donations can be made to St. Mary Catholic Church in Painesville.
