Marie “Rose” Cassetta was born September 2, 1922 in Fairmont, West Virginia, the daughter of Cristino Nicola Cassetta and Addolorata Zeoli Cassetta. Rose passed away peacefully October 23, 2018, at age 96, at Concord Village in Concord Township.
Rose learned early the ethics of hard work, family and friendship in her hometown of Fairmont, West Virginia. At the age of 16, Rose took her first job with McCrory’s Stores followed by Westinghouse Electric Corporation. She later moved to Painesville, Ohio and joined Pollutro-Rossley Insurance Agency where she worked as a secretary and bookkeeper for over thirty years.
Rose was fondly known as “Aunt Rose” or “Cassetta” amongst her friends and community, and will be remembered for her loyalty, dependability, and for being the first call or card on your birthday. Rose was blessed with the creative use of her hands and was well-known for her “Made Especially For You By Aunt Rose” designer clothes, first communion dresses, toys, baskets, afghans, hats, potholders and Christmas decorations.
Although she did not have children of her own, Rose was a mother to many and spent much of her life making sure others were cared for alongside her daily rosary. Her sense of humor, strength and selflessness were valued by her family, friends, Godchildren, cousins, neighbors, and all she met.
Rose is survived by her brother, Michael (Ardelia) Cassetta of Parrish, FL; nieces, Dolores (Robert) Rossley of Painesville, Camille (Thomas) Conley of Troy, MI, Julie Cassetta of Harrisonburg, VA, and Monica (Armagan) Selcik of Alexandria, VA.; nephews Fred (Jenny) Pollutro of Painesville and Michael (Sarah) Cassetta of Raleigh, NC; eighteen great-nieces and nephews; twelve great-great nieces and nephews; fifteen Godchildren; and many cherished cousins and caring friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Maria Carmina Pollutro; brother-in-law, Fred Pollutro; and sister-in-law, Carolyn Cassetta.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 27, 2018 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 242 North State Street, and burial at Riverside Cemetery in Painesville, Ohio.
