Marion Ivy (Coates) Schomburg passed away on October 31, 2024 in Painesville, Ohio. She was born July 22, 1940, in Main Brook, Newfoundland, Canada to Clarence and Gertrude (Ollerhead) Coates. She had 3 brothers, Dorman (Mary), Leonard (Audry), and Edward (Jean) Coates and 4 sisters, Jeanette Couture, Eileen (Kevin) Gunn, Christine (Ken) Stevens, and Patsy (Dave) Hanrahan.
Marion met her long time love Thomas Schomburg while she worked at a hospital in St Anthony, Newfoundland. Tom was stationed in St. Anthony while serving in the US Air Force. They married Oct. 30, 1961 and had 63 cherished years together.
While her kids were young Marion was a stay at home mom .She was involved in PTA, and was also a den mother for the Cub Scouts. She then worked in retail and manufacturing for several years when Larry and Eileen started middle school. She worked for many years at Bowden Mfg. and retired in the the 90's.
Marion had a full and active life. With her husband Tom beside her, they loved going on walks, bird watching, and going on country drives. Marion and Tom loved to travel and after retiring took a 2 week trip across the country driving though as many states as possible. She and Tom enjoyed vacationing in Myrtle Beach for a month with family and friends each year. Her favorite site was seeing the wild horses out west.
Marion played a very important role in the lives of their 3 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. She loved playing with the kids, always having their favorite snacks and treats on hand. She also loved cooking and baking and would bake that special something for each member of the family. Marion loved to crochet and knit and made many scrunchy pads for everyone. She was a member of the First Church of Christ for many years. While attending she was involved in bible studies, helped with the Project Hope meals and Bag Lunch program and contributed anytime food was needed.
Marion leaves behind her husband Thomas of 63 years, son, Larry Lee Schomburg (Annette), daughter, Eileen Janette Nemeth (Rick); 3 grandchildren, Leah (AJ), Chelsea (Neal), Ricky; 4 great grandchildren, Thomas, Quinn, Raymond and Blake.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, Clarence and Gertrude Coates, brother, Dorman Coates; sister, Jeanette (John) Couture, and brother in-law, Adrian Hanrahan..
She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews and she loved them all.
A memorial service for close friends and family will be held at First Church of Christ, 422 Mentor Avenue, Painesville on Saturday Dec. 7th at 12 p.m.. Pastor Larry Wade will be officiating. Everyone is invited to lunch following service.
