Mary Louise Platko was called to sit with the angels by our heavenly Father on January 20th, 2021 at the age of 90.
“Meddie”, as she was known by friends and family, was born to Vincenzo and Rose Foresi in Alverda, Pennsylvania on September 16th, 1930. She is survived by her husband, John (Jack) Platko, in a loving marriage of 65 years, brother, James Foresi and sister, Deloris Tonelli. Mary and John’s children include: Greg (Cindy) Platko, Terri Platko, Jeanette (Tom) Kinnee, John J. (Mellonie) Platko, Rose (Steve) Williams. They are blessed to have ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren: Melissa (Joshua) Grey, Danielle (Jeff) Burry, Shane (Chelsea) Thornton, Mark Thornton, Stacy (Matt) Haynes, Samantha (Dan) Popio, Joshua Platko, Alec Castillo, John Castillo, Hannah Williams, Alex, Lila, Grant, Brody and Blaire.
Mary’s hobbies included writing poetry, gardening, bird watching, the Pittsburgh Steelers and reading her Bible. Known as “The Perry Historian”, she was co-founder of the Perry Historical Society where she also served as president and museum curator. Mary had been a committee member for the Perry High School Distinguished Hall of Fame for over a decade. In 2017, she was inducted into the Lake County Senior Citizens Hall of Fame for service to her community. Her career included serving as Perry Twp. Clerk and administrative secretary of the Perry Fire Department.
Mary loved her St. Cyprian's Catholic Church family where she had been eucharistic minister and actively involved on many committees since the church’s founding in 1968. She was a pillar of fortitude and faith who served her family, friends and community. Although she has a long list of accomplishments, her most prized was her family.
Due to the current pandemic and the concerns for community safety, the family will be having a private Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, January 23rd. Final resting place will be the Perry Cemetery. A public Celebration of Life service will be planned for a future date.
