Mary T. “Mitzi” Mihalic (nee Makse) passed away July 24, 2022, in Mentor, Ohio. She was born September 9, 1926, to Joseph and Julia Makse.
Mitzi was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. She was an excellent homemaker, a gifted seamstress (a talent she acquired at Jane Adams High School) and an efficient and popular waitress at Sorn’s Restaurant and the Lincoln Inn in Cleveland. She also worked as head housekeeper at the Shoreby Club in Bratenahl. As a devout Catholic Christian, she was active over the years at St. Vitus in Cleveland, St. Jerome in Cleveland, and St. Anthony of Padua in Fairport Harbor, serving multiple terms as Altar and Rosary president.
Mitzi loved to garden, she meticulously cared for her hollyhocks and dahlias. She was an outstanding baker blessing many with her traditional Slovenian recipes. Whenever possible, she loved the opportunity to dance a good polka.
Mitzi is survived by her children, Patricia L. (Tom) Doyle, Rev. Peter M. Mihalic, Susan M. (Bill) Grebenc, and Katherine A. Mihalic (Marc Briggs); daughter in law Kathy (nee Coghill) Mihalic; her grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, and many friends, especially Rev. Shanon (Rick) Sterringer and everyone at Haven Home.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Peter M. Mihalic, Sr., her son, Michael C. Mihalic, grandson, Raymond Sierleja; brother, Joseph Makse; sister, Josephine Lesko, and her parents.
Friends will be received 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM, Monday, August 1, 2022, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 316 Fifth Street, Fairport Harbor, Ohio. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 AM. Private interment will take place at All Souls Cemetery in Chardon, Ohio.
