Michael D. Hilston, age 71, passed away May 14, 2024, surrounded by loved ones. He was born December 3, 1952, in Painesville to Melvin David Hilston and Joan (Neebuhr-Hilston) Hagan.
Michael graduated from Culver Military Academy in Indiana, after which he attended Cleveland State University. He served his country in the United States Army National Guard.
After receiving his bachelor’s degree in chemistry, he spent the majority of his career at Avery Dennison. The culmination of his hard work and knowledge resulted in the development of 19 patents, many of which contributed to the advancement of technologies still in use today.
Michael was passionate about learning. In his free time, he enjoyed studying - especially physics. Because he wanted others to have the opportunity to learn as well, he served as a Painesville Township School Board Member. In that role, his cool head and even temper allowed for productive discussion and brought concepts to fruition.
Most importantly, Michael will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He will be greatly missed.
Michael is survived by his wife, Barbara (Polzer) Hilston; his daughter, Kathryn (Matthew) Roesner; sons, Martin (Mandy), Bill (Britany), Mark (Eva), and Bob (Mandy) Hilston; grandchildren, Kayla, Michelle, Sadie, Tessa, Maeve, Beau, Tristan, Taryn, Talia, Emma, and Sunny; and sisters, Joni (Rick) Frank, Michele (Skip) Lakia, Marsha (Tom) Cassels.
He was preceded in death by his grandson, Jacob Hilston, sister, Laura Simkins, and his parents.
A Mass will be held at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Cleveland on May 24th. A private burial will take place on May 25th.
