Nancy Jane (Pohto) Ross
February 16, 1934 – September 21, 2025
Nancy Jane Ross, cherished sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother , and friend, passed away peacefully at home in Bryan,Tx. On September 21, 2025, at the age of 91.
Born in Fairport Harbor, Ohio, to Finnish parents Irene and Reuben Pohto, Nancy’s life was a tapestry of love, family, and adventure.
In 1954, while attending Miami University in Ohio, Nancy met the love of her life, James Leslie Ross Jr. They married in 1954 and raised six children: Kathryn (Michael), Randy (Donna), James (Cinthya), Ronald (Laura), Constance, and Jeffrey (Lisa). Their journey took them across various states, including Clinton and Cambridge, Ohio, Cranberry, New Jersey, and Yardley, Pennsylvania, before settling in New Milford, Connecticut, where all their children attended high school.
Nancy’s family grew to include 14 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, all of whom will fondly remember her sweet tooth and her love for baking homemade cookies, brownies, cakes, and pies. After dedicating many years to her family as a homemaker, Nancy also worked briefly in retail sales and later several years in real estate.
In retirement, Nancy and Jim enjoyed life in Sun City West, Arizona, where they relished golfing and having friends and family visit frequently. Nancy was known for her thoughtful gesture of sending greeting cards for every occasion, keeping her family connected no matter the distance.
After the loss of her husband to cancer, Nancy lived with her oldest daughter, Kathryn , and her husband Michael for a decade, with occasional visits to her brother Gerald in Ohio. She cherished a vacation where she traveled along the California coast and exploring many of the iconic sights.
In her later years, Nancy lived with her daughter Constance and beloved pets in Elgin, Illinois, and then in Bryan, Texas, where they enjoyed watching sports and daytime television together.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to Hospice Brazos Valley for their compassionate care in Nancy’s final months. Memorial services will be held in her hometown of Fairport Harbor, Ohio, and are being arranged by the Spear- Mulqueeny Funeral Home in Painesville, Ohio.
