Nicholas (Nick) J. Tomba, age 93, passed away peacefully on December 29, 2024, surrounded by his family. He was born February 23, 1931, in Morgantown, West Virginia to Giuseppe and Filomena (Colocielo) Tomba. He was the beloved husband of 51 years to his beautiful wife, Shirley Kish Tomba.
Nick was a US Army veteran, serving in the Artillery Division stationed at Fort Benning, GA from 1953 to 1955. Nick was a founding member of St. Gabriel Parish and was a Grand Knight of Knights of Columbus – Council 947. He owned Buckeye TV Repair Service in Fairport and continued to repair TVs for family and friends after the business closed. Nick worked as an instrument supervisor for The Lubrizol Corporation in Painesville for 33 years, retiring in March 1994. During his tenure at Lubrizol, he made several trips to China, as part of a start-up team for a new production facility.
Nick enjoyed gardening and playing golf (achieving two hole-in-ones). He was also a very handy person who generously offered his assistance to family and friends on many projects. He and Shirley often travelled and went on cruises with family and friends. His true passion was spending time with his family including his seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren, who he was affectionately referred to as Papa.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife in 2009, his parents, sister Assunta Marco and brothers Cosimo and Domenick Tomba.
Beloved father of Renae (David) Bevan of Painesville Township, Steven (Susan) Tomba of Bloomfield Hills, MI, Sheryl (Jay) Pope of Mentor, OH and Nicholas Tomba II of New Orleans, LA. Proud grandfather to Bradley and Michael (Natalie) Bevan, Jessica (John) Sweeney and Sarah Gausman (fiancé Bryan Kromer), Abigail Tomba, and Julia and Jacob Tomba and great grandfather to Kinsley and Bailey Bevan, Luke and Connor Sweeney.
Brother of Laura (Philip) Padula, who held a special place in his heart.
Family and friends will be received 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM, Friday, January 3, 2025, at Spear Mulqueeny Funeral Home, 667 Mentor Avenue, Painesville, Ohio. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM, January 4, 2025, at St., Gabriel Catholic Church, 9925 Johnnycake Ridge Road, Concord Township. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery.
