Richard T. Mills

Richard T. Mills Sr., (91) passed away peacefully at home on August 25, 2024.  Richard was born on January 14, 1933, to Charles and Merle Mills.  He was a proud resident of Lakewood and graduate of Benedictine High School, Class of 1951.

Richard married Mary Pohl Mills on May 28, 1983.  They enjoyed traveling to various locations in the United States as well as Europe.  When not traveling, Richard and Mary loved to spend time with family and friends as well as attending each and every family celebration.

Richard served in the United States Navy during the Korean War 1951 – 1954.  He was proud that he could serve his country.  Richard worked for the East Ohio Gas Company and retired after 38 years.

Richard enjoyed golfing.  He hit a hole in one at Chardon Lakes Golf Course, Hole 11.  In retirement, Richard worked at Fairway Pines Golf Course for 10 years and later worked at Little Mountain Golf Course for 16 years.

Richard served as a Eucharistic Minister since 1978.  He was also active in various organizations, serving as Vice-President and Treasurer of the Holy Name Society at St. Mary Church in Painesville, past President and Treasurer of the Lake Geauga Serra Club, Treasurer of the Lake/Geauga Holy Name Society Deanery, and he was Treasurer of Canterbury Crossing Condo Association for 15 years.  Richard gladly delivered Meals on Wheels in the Painesville area.

Richard is survived by his wife Mary; children, Richard (Debbie) Mills Jr., Edward (Heidi) Mills, Michael (Barbara) Mills, Scott (Ann Marie) Mills, Daniel (Nikki) Mills and Beth Ellen Mills.  He was Stepfather to Joseph (Kathie) Pohl, Terri Pohl Felger, Deborah (Bob) Grgic, and Roseanne (Ross) Varacelli.  Richard leaves behind 26 grandchildren and 23 and counting, great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles William Mills and Merle Mills; his children, Charles Joseph and Kelly Ann; four sisters, Peggy Scullin, Rita Kopf, Jerry Chandler and Mary Burkhart; three brothers, Charles William Mills, Donald Edward Mills and John Joseph Mills.

Friends will be received 9:30 am – 10:00 am, Thursday, September 5, 2024, at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, 9925 Johnnycake Ridge Road, Concord Township, Ohio. The Funeral Mass will immediately follow at 10:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers donations in Richard’s memory may be sent to Hospice of Northeast Ohio or to the Lake County Serra Club.
