The world lost a sweet, kind and gentle soul with the passing of Richard “Dick” E. Lohiser on June 22, 2024, just a month shy of his 91st birthday.
Dick was born on July 17, 1933, in Painesville Ohio. As a boy, Dick loved fishing for suckers and hunting for squirrels in the streams and woods of Concord, as well as racing midget race cars with his father and brothers. Dick enjoyed following the Browns especially during their heyday in the 60s, 70s, and early 80s. In more recent years, he loved watching his Buckeyes play football on Saturdays during the fall as well as watching the Cleveland Guardians' games. He also loved following NASCAR races with his son Brian.
Dick owned and operated a gas/service station with his brother Stewart in the late 50s and 60s, just across the street from his father's general store. Later, Dick and his wife Jean ran Lohiser Oil Company in Concord for many years. Their bright yellow oil delivery truck was a fixture around Lake County during the 80s and 90s delivering home heating oil and diesel fuel to many happy customers. After retiring Dick took on the role of Mr. fix it and loved helping with house and vehicle repairs for all of his family. Whether it was a simple bathroom repair, replacing a deck, changing brakes on a car, or helping his son Brad with a complete kitchen remodel, Dick loved helping out and was skilled at fixing anything mechanical. Just three years ago he was instrumental in helping remodel the condo where his grandson Leo lives today.
Dick also loved fishing with his sons, and they spent many fun-filled days fishing on Lake Erie and in farm ponds around Lake County. In his typical unselfish way, he was always quick to hand a fishing rod to one of his boys so they could have the fun of reeling in the catch. To him that was more enjoyable than actually catching a fish himself.
By far Dick’s greatest joy in life was spending time with his beloved family. Wife Jean (Young), daughter Pam (Bowsman), sons Brad and Brian, and grandchildren Leo (Bowsman) and Leandra (Bowsman) were his greatest loves. His kindness will live on in the hearts and souls of his family.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents Richard and Alta Lohiser, son-in-law Andy Bowsman, sister Kathleen Murphy and brother, Stewart Lohiser.
Family and friends are invited to a brief graveside service at Concord cemetery. A date for that is pending.
