Services for Robert L. Bissett, age 85, of Mentor on the Lake will be Thursday August 10, 2023, at 11:00 AM at the Spear-Mulqueeny Funeral Home, 667 Mentor Ave. Painesville. Family and friends may call from 5-7 PM, Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Mentor Cemetery.
Robert was the son of William and Miriam (Tanner) Bisset born on December 20, 1937, in Cleveland, Ohio. He passed away August 5, 2023, at his home surrounded by family.
Robert began his career as a mechanic at Euclid Motor Rebuilding, followed by a job with Wiseco Piston, where he began racing Go-Karts for the Wiseco Factory Team, winning many trophies including the National Championship in 1960. After turning down a job from racing legend, Junior Johnson, Robert retired from racing and went to work at Sears & Roebuck after the birth of his first son.
Robert retired from Sears in Mentor after many years of service. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, stock car racing, go cart racing, playing baseball and basketball. He also loved to dance.
He is survived by his wife Nancy (Rakas) Hess Bissett; sons, Ron (Norma) Bissett and Bill (Kim) Bissett; 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren; brother, Jim (Dora) Bissett; sisters, Jane Hill, Audrey Dawson, Sandra (Anthony) Dottore, Patricia Moyer and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wives, Elizabeth Grant, Lena Bissett; a son Robert Bissett, Jr. and brother, Thomas Misch.
