Robert G. Chandler, age 66, passed away January 23, 2025, at his home in Painesville Township. He was born August 26, 1958, in Albany, New York, to Robert G. Chandler Jr. and Marion (Roberts) Chandler.
Bob played ice hockey from age 3 through high school. He was an honors graduate of Ithaca College where he also competed on the soccer, cross country and track teams. Bob earned his master’s degree in Exercise Physiology at Kent State and became a board-certified Physical Therapist through Cleveland State University.
Bob taught Health and Physical Education for 10 years and then pivoted to full time outpatient orthopedic physical therapy for 28 years, including an extended engagement at Precision Orthopaedics. Bob enjoyed the friendships he developed with PT coworkers and patients.
Outside of work, Bob nurtured his passion for running competitively and ran the Boston Marathon six times, earning the honor of being the first Ohio finisher twice and a personal best time of 2:26:28. A man of many talents, Bob enjoyed kayaking, target shooting, archery, and his Lionel train collection. He was a master brewer and particularly enjoyed his IPAs (as did the happy recipients of his efforts). He especially loved his dog, Scooter.
Bob enjoyed watching his daughters Maddie and Natalie excel in Dance and Horseback riding and running with his wife, Ginny. Bob also enjoyed watching sports, from the local high school teams to college (he saw the Buckeyes win the National Championship) to the hometown favorites Cavaliers and Browns. He enjoyed going to Indians games with his daughter Natalie.
Bob is survived by wife, Ginny Gontero; his parents; daughters Maddie (Adam) Curtan and Natalie Chandler (Brian Regovich); sister, Lori (Paul) Schwarz, brother, Scott (Ellen) Chandler; Sister-in-law Mary Gontero (Wendell Day), Brother-in-Law Victor Gontero (Kelly), Sister-in-law Susan Bregar and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to mention the incredible care and compassion from his nurses, specifically Jennifer, Nicole, and Sonja, at UH Mentor Seidman Cancer Center.
Friends will be received from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at Spear-Mulqueeny Funeral Home, 667 Mentor Avenue, Painesville, Ohio. A Memorial Service will follow at 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
