Ronald Garland, (Ron, Ronnie, Papa Ron) age 75, of Painesville passed away peacefully at his residence Wednesday, April 13, 2021. He was born July 2, 1945 in Warren, OH. He served in the U S Army and was stationed in Korea.
Ron worked as a telephone lineman in Florida (1969) and when he moved back home to Ohio, he started his career as a machinist in 1994 until retirement from Aero Controlex in 2016. An original pioneer of internet dating, he met his lifetime love, Mel, in 1996 online. He became part of a big extended family and never looked back.
He loved spending time with Melody and all the adventures they went on. He loved watching the Indians and Browns play. He loved learning new things and tinkering in his garage with his gadgets. Ron and Melody spent their winters in Oklahoma, they upgraded from flying down to driving their RV down, and loved spending the time with their grand- children and great grandchildren. Ron enjoyed seeing and hearing about his children and grandchildren. An avid coffee drinker that resulted in a collection of mugs, Ron was never one to not finish a pot of coffee.
Ronald is survived by his love of 24 years, Melody; children, Scott Kay of Tempe, Az., Kevin Kay of Soldotna, Alaska, Shawn and Amy Kay of Kenai, Alaska, and Robin and Johnny Gannon of Davis, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Karli and Ernesto Lopez, Austin Kay, Parker Maddox, Jonathon and Arlin Gannon, Trista and Derrick Hunt and Callie Sahl; great grandchildren, Corbin, Mia, Jetson, Baker and Connor. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.
Private family services will be held in Davis, Oklahoma. TBA.
