Ronald "Ronny" Ames Obituary

Ronald W. (Ronny, Ron) Ames, 61, a resident of Painesville, Ohio, passed away on October 18th, 2021, from natural causes (heart attack).  Ron was born at the Lake County Memorial Hospital in Painesville on October 20th,1959, and graduated from St. Mary’s Elementary School (1974) and Harvey High School (1978).  After High School Ron moved to Sarasota, Florida, where he earned an Associate’s Degree while working full time.  He later moved to Fairfax, Virginia (~in 1986), and then Loveland, Colorado (~2011).   He returned to Painesville in 2014 to help care for his aging grandmother, and later was the primary caregiver for both his mother and uncle, Jim Arp.

Ron held a number of positions in the telecommunications and technology industries, where he traveled extensively nationally and internationally.  Ron excelled in athletics, playing football, basketball and baseball during his school days, and continued his love for the sports through playing for organized teams, and in pickup games until much later in life.  He was a great teammate, and a passionate and caring person who would do anything to help a friend.

Ron is survived by his mother Mary Ann Gavelda, of Painesville and Fairport, and three brothers: Robert L. (Louie) Ames, Jr. of West Cleveland (now deceased 1/2022), Stephen Ames of Ashburn, Virginia (Anne Marie, deceased), and Lawrence (Larry) Ames of Ashland, Ohio (Teresa), and six nephews and a niece.  He was preceded in death by his father Robert L. (Bob) Ames, Sr, his grandparents Carmelita (Carmie) and James (Jay) Arp, and great-grandfather Lee Bertone, all residents of Painesville.

Because of Covid restrictions, a private reception was held in Painesville in November.  If you wish to reach family members. If you wish to contact family members, please email them at GarfieldDr99@gmail.com.
