Thelma Hungerford, lifetime Mentor resident age 85, passed away March 12, 2023. She was born July 5, 1937, in Morgantown, Pennsylvania to Emanuel and Eunice Martin.
When she arrived in Ohio, she worked at the former Manners Big Boy where she met her husband Carl and they were married on January 12, 1957
Thelma was a supervisor for the lunchroom at Sterling Morton Elementary for over 28 years She enjoyed helping and serving the children at school no child went hungry even if they did not have money for lunch she made sure the always had something to eat. She also worked as the manager of Skateland Roller Rink in Mentor on the Lake for many years.
She Enjoyed being at the boat dock at the Mentor Lagoons, loved her flowers and gardening and enjoyed her 4th of July celebrations with her family and neighbors. Visiting her children and writing letters to her son while he was in the service.
Most important to her was spending time with her family She was a loving mother who shared stories with all her family. She will be missed by all.
Thelma was a member of North Mentor Centenary United Methodist Church
Thelma is survived by her sons, Roger (Suzanne) Hungerford, Rick (Peggy) Hungerford Robert (Penny) Hungerford; 5 grandchildren 10 great grandchildren 3 great great grandchildren
Siblings, William, Melvin, Douglas and Darlene
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Hungerford; son, Terry L. Hungerford; her parents and her siblings Betty, Eugene and James
Friends will be received Saturday March 18, 2023 from 10:00 until 11:00 AM at Spear Mulqueeny Funeral Home, 667 Mentor Avenue, Painesville, Ohio. Funeral Services will be Saturday at 11:00 AM
There will be Celebration of Life service for Thelma during the Month of July date to be announced later
Burial will be at Western Reserve Memorial Gardens in Chesterland.
