Thomas Dale Schomburg Obituary

It is with a heavy heart we announce Thomas Dale Schomburg passed away on Sunday, April 13, 2025, in Mentor, Ohio. He was born February 2, 1939, in Portsmouth, Ohio to Leonard and Margaret Schomburg. Tom had 2 brothers, Donald and Maurice, and 4 sisters, Edna Mae, Ruth, Wanda and Theda (Mike). He was married to Marion (Coates) for 63 beautiful years. 

Tom served as an Air Force Radar Operator and was stationed in Newfoundland, Canada where he met Marion. Before and after his service, he worked in Portsmouth as a butcher. Tom married Marion on October 30, 1961, in Portsmouth. There they had their son Larry. He and Marion moved up to Willoughby in 1964 where he worked as a butcher. Shortly after that their daughter Eileen was born. He then was employed at Air Tool Service Company as a Grinding Operator, then Supervisor and retired from there at 65 years of age. They enjoyed traveling and after retiring took a 2 week trips across the country driving through as many states as possible.

Tom had a full and active life. He enjoyed golfing and fishing with the family. Tom was good at woodworking and made many picture frames, shelves, cabinets and toys over the years. With his wife beside him, they loved going on walks and bird watching and working puzzles.  Tom and Marion played a very important role in the lives of their 3 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Tom enjoyed doing many things with all of them. He was a member of the First Church of Christ where he was involved in men’s group and helped with the Project Hope Bag Lunch program

Thomas leaves behind his son, Larry Lee Schomburg (Annette), daughter, Eileen Nemeth (Rick), 3 grandchildren, Leah (AJ), Chelsea (Neal) and Ricky; 4 great grandchildren, Thomas, Quinn, Raymond and Blake. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and in-laws.

Thomas was proceeded in death by his wife Marion. His parents, brothers, Donald and Maurice and sister, Edna Mae.

A memorial service for close friends and family will be held at First Church of Christ, 422 Mentor Ave, Painesville OH on Sunday, May 18 at 2:00pm. Pastor Dillon Shipman will be officiating.  Everyone is invited to refreshments following the service.
