Valerie J Hunter

Valerie J. Hunter, age 75, passed away September 22, 2021, at Tri-Point Medical Center in Concord Township.  She was born, March 29, 1946, in Painesville to Charles and Ruth (Becker) Hawkins.

Valerie was a 1964 graduate of Riverside High School. She attended beauty school and obtained her Cosmetologist License and used it to cut hair for family and friends. She worked at Sears and Carlisle’s Department Store in Painesville for many years.  She liked to go camping and enjoyed sewing.  She was especially fond of her dog, Duke.  Valerie loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.  Her Saturday nights often included games of dominos.

Valerie spent many enjoyable years as a Homeroom Mother, 4-H Leader, and Girls Scout Leader.  She was also an active member of Rainbows, Eastern Star and the Madhatters Canoe Club.  Before her Multiple Sclerosis diagnosis, she led an adventurous life camping on a motorcycle, whitewater rafting, and traveling with family, friends or whoever would go.

Valerie is survived by her husband, Daniel Hunter; daughters, Rebecca (John) Birovsek, Jill (John) Murrin and Heidi Hunter; brother, Charles Hawkins; sisters, Nancy (Larry) McCormick and Janet (Steve) Ruszkai; grandchildren, Sean, Meg, Angela, Clare, Ayden, Nicholas, and Michael; and many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother David and her in-laws Margaret and Ken Hunter.

Funeral Services for Valerie will be at 4:00 PM on Sunday, September 26, 2021, at Spear Mulqueeny Funeral Home, 667 Mentor Avenue, Painesville, Ohio.  Friends will be received from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM before the service.  Family graveside services will be held on Monday at Western Reserve Cemetery.
