Valerie A. Laczko

Valerie A. Laczko, age 83, formerly of Fairport Harbor, Ohio, passed away July 19, 2023, in Mentor, Ohio.  She was born January 22, 1940, in Cleveland, OH, to the late Matthias and Ann (Pohto) Laczko and was the wife of the late Kenneth Huebner. Valerie attended Notre Dame Academy High School in Cleveland and Majored in Art at the University of Dayton. Valerie and her late husband resided in the ancestral home of her Pohto Grandparents in Fairport Harbor. The home was built in the 1910s by brothers Isaac, Michael and Charles Pohto.

Valerie worked for the Internal Revenue Service for over 30 years as a Revenue Officer in Cuyahoga and Lake Counties. In her free time, she collected and read many books, enjoyed costume jewelry, traveled to science fiction conventions with her husband Kenny, loved frequently visiting the Cleveland Art Museum, and was a long-time volunteer at the Fairport Harbor Marine Museum and Light House. She was an avid Science Fiction reader and had an extensive collection of memorabilia and books. She was also a member of St. Anthony’s Church in Fairport Harbor.

Valerie is survived by her brother Robert Paul (Geraldine) Laczko; nephews, Robert Mathias John Laczko and William (Christina) Laczko; great niece, Elizabeth Laczko; step daughter, Lisa Huebner; step grandson, Patrick Huebner; goddaughter and caregiver, Jeanette Pohto Stanzi and many cousins and other relatives in Lake County.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Huebner in 2019, her sister, Barbara (Laczko) Migliaccio in 2011, and by her parents.

Friends will be received on Friday, July 28,2003, between 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM at Spear Mulqueeny Funeral Home, 667 Mentor Avenue, Painesville, Ohio.  Funeral Services will immediately follow at 11:00 AM.  Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.  In Lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Fairport Harbor Marine Museum Lighthouse Association 129 Second St., Fairport Harbor, OH 44077.
