William Vaughn Buckman, age 98, passed away April 18, 2023, in Concord Township, Ohio. He was born September 21, 1924 in Monroe City, Missouri to Collins & Gladys Buckman.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Rosalie. Throughout their marriage, they simply called each other “Mom and Dad.” Their quiet unassuming love for each other set the foundation and theme for the family values they passed to their sons and daughters-in-laws.
It was rare that he and Rosalie ever missed attending any of their boys or grandchildren’s sporting events or school activities. He was blessed to have either a child, grandchild, or great grandchild born in every decade since the 1940’s. On any given day he would proudly tell you where and what each of his legacies were doing.
His early years were spent farming with his father while at the same time becoming an accomplished horse trainer. Due to health reasons he moved to Ohio in the 1940’s and was employed at the Cleveland Electric Illuminating Company, retiring after over 40 years of service. Until his senior years, he was an active member of the Painesville Knights of Columbus No. 947 and at his death was the oldest member of this council.
He is survived by three sons: Bill (Beth) Buckman, John (Teresa) Buckman, and Bob (Carol) Buckman; nine grandchildren: Carrie Skelton, Marcie Bonanno, Eric Buckman, Brian Buckman, Kevin Buckman, Stacey Jarzynka, Chelsea Chambers, Caylee Lucas and Lindsay Buckman; 16 great grandchildren and was anxiously expecting his 17th great grandchild in three weeks.
Besides his parents, he was also proceeded in death by his sister, Velma Anderson Gidding.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM Saturday April 22, 2023, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 242 N. State Street in Painesville, Ohio. Friends will be received from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, Friday April 21st at Spear Mulqueeny Funeral Home, 667 Mentor Avenue, Painesville. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
