Woodrow W. Halstead, age 83, passed away May 1, 2025, at Tri Point Medical Center in Concord Township, Ohio. He was born November 17, 1941, in Huntington, West Virginia to Edward R. Halstead and Pearl (Blankenship) Halstead-Thayer
Woodrow served in the United States Navy as a radarman during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He also assisted in numerous Apollo recovery missions while aboard the USS Intrepid.
He worked as a forge press operator for the TRW Valve Division in Cleveland, Ohio for 36 years.
In his retirement, Woodrow enjoyed sitting on the front porch counting cars and talking to anyone who stopped by. If the people who stopped by happened to see the Navy flag flying on the pole and mentioned it to him, he’d talk their ear off for an hour. He also loved bowling and taking three hour drives to absolutely nowhere, always ending back at the home he shared with his wife Margaret, daughter Jessica, son-in-law Matt, grandchildren Adam and Nyomi, the dog he didn’t want but who was his, Hoss, two guinea pigs, and a goldfish named Bob.
Woodrow is survived by wife, Margaret L. Halstead; sons, John Halstead and Edward Halstead; daughters, Joanna (Greg) Gates, Cheryl Baker, Deanna Johnson (Rob) and Jessica (Matt) Webster; sisters, Edwina Jones and Marilyn (Carl) White; daughter-in-law LuAnn (Thomas) Rossley; 13 grandchildren and 10 1/2 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; son, David P. Halstead; brothers-in-law, Jimmy Jones, Tom Walters, and Al Walters; and sisters-in-law, Judy Walters and Roberta Joles.
Friends will be received 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM, Wednesday, May 7, 2025 at Spear Mulqueeny Funeral Home, 667 Mentor Avenue, Painesville, Ohio. Funeral Services will follow at 11:00 AM. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery with full Military Honors.
His family would like to thank the nurses on the fourth floor at Tripoint Medical Center in Concord; Diane, Juliana, Leslie, and Taylor. Ladies, thank you for showing compassion and gentleness in your care. You truly made the process much easier.
